This class is a certification course sanctioned by the National Crisis Prevention Institute. Participants will learn basic crisis intervention techniques, how to recognize warning sighs and the use of verbal and non-verbal techniques to avoid a confrontation. Safe intervention procedures, including when to restrain and transport the acting out client as well as a team approach to intervention will be taught. Remedies on how to safely break of fights will also be presented. This is a 2-day class and participants will receive certification upon completion of both days. No-one will be admitted for a single day. |

Richard Watkin has been the Director of Education for the Mental Health Association in Southwestern New Jersey since 1990. With over 20 years of counseling experience, he has trained groups and counseled individuals on topics such as stress reduction, building self-esteem, non-violent crisis intervention, anger management, effective parenting, and other mental health topics. Mr. Watkin specializes in teaching practical tips and hands-on techniques, enabling participants to immediately apply lessons to everyday events. His audiences have included teachers, police and correction officers, parents, students, nurses, inmates, and mental health workers. He has worked with children and adults that are autistic, emotionally disturbed, learning disabled, schizophrenic, and developmentally disabled in both clinical and school settings |
