This workshop is specifically designed for educators working in urban schools. Often teachers in urban environments are not afforded the opportunity to participate in professional development activities which are geared toward addressing the academic and behavioral needs of learners. This seminar will focus on six core areas: - A vision of teaching, grounded in an urban educational philosophy - Knowledge of subject matter and ways to deliver an intellectually and experientially rigorous curriculum - Knowledge of instructional strategies which address the reality of targeted students - Knowledge of student behaviors and classroom interventions to address behavior - Knowledge of self - A habit of reflective practice |

Matt Stevens, Author of Doing It My Way: Decision Making For Today’s Youth, is currently a Counselor, Instructor and Advisor at Kean University, Union, New Jersey. His book is being used in several N.J. Public Schools, and the college version is being used as the text for the Freshman Seminar course in four colleges/universities. Mr. Stevens is involved in many youth empowerment programs and is an experienced public speaker in the area of at-risk youth. |
