Suicide Prevention

Course Outline:

Suicide prevention is part of community protection and staff have a responsibility to protect youth from their own self-destructive behavior.  Evidence indicates that suicidal behavior in an institution can deeply affect both staff and residents.  Though difficult, staff must balance the need for control with residents’ need for empathy and emotional support.  This workshop will provide participants with methods to identify risk factors, understand the importance of on-going monitoring and documentation and provide skills for responding appropriately to suicidal behavior.
