Courtesy, Professionalism & Respect

Course Outline:

In an attempt to proactively reduce the number of non-EEO related complaints filed with the Office of EEO, EEO decided to expand their Anti-Discrimination Training to include training on Courtesy, Professionalism and Respect (CPR). The training stressed the concept that a workplace where dignity and respect for all members of the workforce is maintained is a more productive, harmonious and professional environment. This initiative was introduced Department-wide in 2005. It was well received by managers and employees alike.

Since that time, the CPR component of the training has grown to include a segment on workplace bullying, the newest phenomenon since workplace violence became so prevalent that the majority of employers now have a workplace violence policy in effect. One slide in the PowerPoint presentation illustrates that belief - a pyramid with CPR as the base; a workforce that practices CPR will not violate the Anti-Discrimination Policy and if the Policy is not violated, no one will approach a violation of the NJ Law Against Discrimination.

Courtesy, Professionalism and Respect training stresses the concept that a workplace where dignity and respect for all members of the workforce is maintained, is a more productive, harmonious and professional environment. Originally developed as a means to reduce EEO related complaints, it has expanded to include workplace bullying, the newest phenomenon. In fact workplace violence has become so prevalent, that many employers now have a workplace violence policy in effect.
