My Friends and Colleagues,
As this first year of my term passes, I must say how proud I am of our Association and its members. New Jersey sets a national standard for Juvenile Detention and our Association continues to be a prime factor in creating and maintaining that benchmark.
As I look at a partial list of our accomplishments during these past 12 months, I am amazed at their significance:
• Our membership has been the driving force behind the creation and establishment of the “North East States Coalition for Juvenile Detention”. This accomplishment has been achieved through the dedication and hard work of our Vice-President and other officers, past and present.
• Our Association has influenced seen changes in legislation benefiting the residents in our charge.
• We have become partners with the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission and the UMDMJ Behavioral Healthcare Division to improve the psychological and physical environments in each of New Jersey’s Juvenile Detention facilities, allowing us to better succeed at our core mission: safeguarding the children in our charge.
This is an exciting time to be the President of our Association. We are moving forward to a new age in the field of Juvenile Detention, one requiring the highest degrees of professionalism and dedication. I will continue to work diligently to ensure that our Association maintains its leadership into these new and stimulating times.
I want to thank you for the opportunity and I look forward to working with you as we continue our success.
Sincerely,
Robert F. Murray, President NJJDA
